Channel Letter Backplates
Backplates
can also be called back-plates, or backer-plates, or even backers.
Backplates make a sign appear larger, and certainly more noticeable, for minimal cost. They also are very useful in separating sign colors from wall colors, making the signage much more distinctive.
Backplates also present opportunities to add lighting levels to a sign.
Our backplates are CNC routed using the largest CNC router in the sign industry. Therefore they can prepare larger aluminium sheets; our backplates have less seams so they are structurally more sound.

soundness, be careful. We use 5052 aluminium when making
backplates. Some companies use softer 3003 aluminium. We use
a 0.80 minimum thickness of material, thicker depending on size.
Some companies use plastic, or sheets of plastic sandwiched between two thin sheets of aluminium (Dibond and ACM-type products.) Unsupported plastic materials, any plastic material, deforms (bends) when heated. Your Texas sign gets heated! ACM Sheets (Aluminum Composite Materials) which sandwich polyethylene between two thin sheets of aluminum are especially subject to warping when heated.
Plastics and metals expand and contract at different rates. With Dibond and ACM-type sheets, used outdoors, because they are made of two dissimilar types of materials (plastic and aluminium) also warp with temperature, hot and cold. Multiple sheets do not remain aligned at their seams over time. They are not designed for this application, but some sign companies manufacture outdoor backplates using them.
