Zap Protection™ - Optional Electrical Surge and Lightning Protection
Electrical surges on a sign’s incoming power supply, and lightning strikes, are not covered by any manufacturer’s warranty, and they are common in Texas.
As technology has moved us from the use of electrical components such as core-and-coil ballasts to electronic components, primarily to reduce power consumption, the susceptibility of a sign to damage from electrical power surges or lightning strikes has increased dramatically. Old-style electrical components are simply no longer available in most cases.
Sunburst Displays™ offers surge and lightning Zap Protection™, at a reasonable additional cost, adding components to signs to lower the potential for damage from an occurrence. The devices are over 90% effective in case of an occurrence.
Zap Insurance™ - Electrical Surge Insurance
Unfortunately no surge protection system is 100% effective.
Your property insurance should cover this eventuality. But if it doesn’t, we will cover this continuing risk with optional electrical surge Zap Insurance™, available for signs which have our electrical surge Zap Protection™ (above) installed.
If a Zap Insured™ sign is damaged by either electrical surge or lightning strike we cover all costs of repair, up to and including replacing the entire sign if it is destroyed by an occurrence.

Products believed to be a manufacturing defect will be repaired or replaced upon investigation of the issue…Each new Premier Series Product includes a (5)Year Limited Warranty…In-Factory Labor is covered for 5 years from ship date/warranty activation**” (You decide if a part is defective, remove it from your sign, and send it to them, paying the freight charges. They decide if the part is defective and send you a replacement if it is. Otherwise, they send you back your old part. You pay the freight both ways.) “Exceptions: * Less than 2% of dead LED lamps is considered acceptable and is not covered under warranty…(1,810 lamps can be out on a small 4’ x 8’ 10mm sign and not be covered! “Cirrus LED…What this warranty covers…12 pixels (per board) for…(There are 3 LED lamps per pixel, ALL OF THEM MUST FAIL TO COUNT AS A PIXEL OUTAGE – rare, usually the blue LED fails well before the red or green LEDs fail – so all 36 LED lamps in 12 individual pixels must fail to receive warranty coverage!)…This warranty lasts for five calendar years following the purchase of any Cirrus LED display system…All defective parts must be returned to Cirrus Systems for servicing upon failure. Replacement components will be dispatched once a credit card has been secured to guarantee the return of the defective part. Replaced parts are required to be returned within 21 days of shipment or a charge for the cost of the replacement part will be applied to the held credit card…This warranty does not cover labor costs…Cirrus will not be responsible for any labor charges incurred during assembly, disassembly, or any other services related to the part replacement…” (emphasis added)
“Redmont Sign LLC dba Stewart Signs expressly warrants to the original purchaser that, for a period of five (5) years…reasonably free of defects…During the Limited Warranty Period the Company will, at its discretion, repair or replace…Failed electronic parts or assemblies will be repaired, exchanged or replaced, at the discretion of the Company…Telephone support is provided as needed during the warranty period…Removing and reinstalling repaired or replacement parts are the responsibility of the owner…Replacement or repaired parts are warranted to be free from defects in material or workmanship for ninety (90) days…The Company will repair failed LED pixels, if greater than 0.5% (one-half of one percent) of the total number of pixels in the sign have failed in one (1) year...The definition of pixel failure is when all LED's in the pixel will no longer emit light (this is 150 pixels with all 3 LED lamps defective in a small 4' x 8' sign Do you have to send them the whole sign so they can count them? Failed in a year?)…Owner bears the responsibility of transporting Product to Company's Repair Center…If the Company, at its discretion, determines a repair is unreasonable, replacement is not included in this Warranty…This Limited Warranty is not transferable…This Limited Warranty specifically excludes any on-site labor…This Limited Warranty does not apply to software…Third-party communications devices…Temperature sensors…” (emphasis added.)
“…Daktronics warrants to the original end user…that the Equipment will be free from Defects…in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year…Daktronics’ obligation under this Warranty is limited to, at Daktronics’ option, replacing or repairing, any Equipment or part thereof that is found by Daktronics not to conform to the Equipment’s specifications.
